Our Living Room : Before + AfterMonday, June 24, 2013
We are slowly, but surely, replacing furniture that we obtained during our college days. Last year we got rid of our tiny little dining room table and found something that would be better for when we had friends over for dinner. Then, a few months later we found a great deal on Craigslist and were able to upgrade from our queen bed to a king bed, which, in my mind was the BEST investment we could have ever made. Once you go king, you can.not.go.back. Then a couple of months ago, when my business started taking off and I started spending more hours in our office, we were able to upgrade our folding card table to an actual IKEA desk.
It sounds like a lot of purchases made at once, but really it didn't happen quickly. We had to save up for each purchase, which at times was annoying (kicking each other in a small bed isn't fun and having to type slow so that you don't wobble the card table desk isn't great either).
This past week we were finally able to upgrade our one piece of furniture that I have been wanting to get rid of since we moved to Alabama. The couch.
My couch from college wasn't in horrible shape. It was comfortable - everyone who sat on it said so. It was fraying a little bit on the edges though and it just wasn't the right color/style, so it had a slip cover on it. And its slip cover never stayed on right. Every time someone sat on the couch, you had to fix the slip cover. I couldn't go to bed at night until I fixed the slip cover and wedged every last bit of the fabric back where it had come out of.
I am happy to say that our new couch doesn't need a slipcover.
Mostly we held off on getting a new couch because of Cooper. I had visions in my mind of Cooper going through a teething phase and ripping our couch apart when we weren't looking. I didn't want to take the chance. So, a year and a 4 months later, we finally took the plunge. And when our couch did arrive, Cooper sniffed it once and then lay down on his bed.
I bought some new pillows & accessories from TJ.Maxx to brighten up the room as well.
Next on the list is curtains!
