Valentine’s Day Dinner
By Joy
Well, I did it. I finally went “all out” for Valentine’s Day. Last year we spent our Valentine’s Day moving all of our furniture and things into our house and welcoming Cooper into our family. So, between building our bed and picking up dog poo, there wasn’t much time to “celebrate”. This year, I decided to do things differently because of a Valentine’s Day party article I saw this in this magazine.
We got lucky this year and Rob didn’t have to work on Valentine’s Day. His many late nights at work paid off. While no one else was flying, Rob was. But, as a result, while everyone else was flying on Valentine’s Day, Rob and I were sleeping in. :) Below is what Rob gave me the morning of valentine’s day. A thoughtful card, donuts, chocolate and diet coke are all that I need to make me happy. ;)
In return, I prepared a “fancy” dinner. Everything on the table was purchased from the Dollar store, except for the table runner – that’s actually a curtain from our living room. I also purchased spray paint from the PX store on post and spray painted the candles, glassware and paper plates. For dinner I made spaghetti and garlic bread. For dessert, I made heart shaped brownies and served them with ice cream. I also scattered tootsie rolls on the table…they were an (excellent) impulse buy at the Dollar store – I snacked on them all week prior to Valentine’s Day and still had enough to spread out on the table.
The total cost to do this was less than $20.00.

Okay, I burst out laughing when you said the table runner is a curtain from your living room. It made me think of Gone with the Wind. Remember when Scarlett didn’t have any money to buy a new ballgown, so she ripped down the draperies in the parlor? Viola! Repurposed fabric! =)
